On Saturday morning we went to the 2006 Asian Festival in Dallas. We had lots of fun. Jeremy said "I like this place". We watched very colorfull shows (indian dances, japanese dances) but as well some very impressive demonstrations of Tae Kwon Do. Hillary liked it too, because they were showing similar forms that we are learning ourself. One of the groups did additionally excellent sword demonstrations with real katanas (japanese samurai swords). Two very skilled martial artists were doing forms with each other. They had to trust each other for not hurting them. The master at the end did also impressive bamboo cuts with the swords. Sorry folks, but we did not make any pictures, but will do so next year.
Here is a fun moment: Since I learn japanese myself, I was asking at one of the japanese booths "anata no nihon jin desu ga?" which means "Are you japanese?". Three people were turning to me very impressed and were asking if I lived in Japan before and I answered back again in japanese "Iie, watashi wa nihon go ga heta desu", which means "No, and my japanese is not that good". This sparked a good conversation with them. I really liked to practice my japanese since there are not many occasions where I can do so.
More news next week, we will go to the Dallas Symphony orchestra for a Gustav Mahler concert.
Have fun, Norbert
